"Pirandello's Cafe" starts from the dramatic script created by Anca Măniuțiu, substructured on two plays by the playwright Luigi Pirandello: Omul with the flower in his mouth and mountain giants, in the intertext of which disparate lines from Six characters in search of an author and Tonight they're improvising.

"Pirandellian" characters, spectrally projected in an abandoned night cafe, located - not by chance - close to the train station, meet and unleash an absurd world, where the border between dream and reality becomes fluid. In this ghostly setting, a group of circus people infiltrates, which energizes the atmosphere and gives the show a comical touch. The word, in a world under the sign of the dream, acquires a secondary role, and the music and, above all, the choreographic language assumes its illustrative dimension.

"The show tries to capture a hallucinatory, fantastic world under the sign of the dream, where the border between reality and dream (or nightmare) is very fragile.

In designing the scenario, I started from Pirandello's obsessions, expressed in all his dramatic works. These refer to the versatile, hard-to-quantify relations between theater and life, to the impossibility of pinning life – as continuous, rushing flow – into the patterns of our social conventions and masks (or into the well-defined identity of some characters). Hence the questioning of our psycho-affective identity and reality itself, which escapes us. Hence, the vague psychological consistency of the characters and their land inadequacy to reality. Cafe Pirandello is the materialization of an emblematic metaphor and an ancient theatrical motif: life is a dream.”
