One actor. Eight characters. A show-experience, full of humor, emotion and despair, about love, (un)happiness and the nobility of failure.
VANYA, the newest show at Point, invites you to discover Chekhov's play, in Simon Stephens' brave and fresh adaptation, a staging that leaves the samovars aside and sets the imagination on fire. In search of light.

Sorin Miron transforms this formidable one-man show into a tour de force that gives rise to a world of characters, relationships and stories, in which a single man becomes an entire universe – the loser who cries out in despair, the arrogant intellectual who demands everything he cannot offer, the hardworking and kind girl, the man without qualities, the man with too many qualities, the splendid and unhappy wife, the one who waits, the cynic, the poet, the medicine man, the shaman, the sorcerer, the conqueror…

Histrionic, playful, vulnerable and deeply human, Vanya is about them all, about all of us, from the estate and the hall, from the street and the stage, a celebration of despair and hope, but above all a tender declaration of love for theater.

The text Vanya, signed by Simon Stephens, is a contemporary rewriting of the Chekhovian universe, which preserves the tension and melancholy of the original, but translates them into a direct, vivid and deeply current language. Constructed as a polyphonic monologue, the text decomposes and reconfigures Chekhov's characters in a fluid form, in which the voices overlap, contradict and complement each other, creating an intimate but extremely dynamic space.
