In 1881, a famous and enigmatic impresario of the time, Edward Gant, presented his show for the last time. The actor's manager, addicted to opiates, presented his troupe by creating a grotesque show, a kind of black comedy, sprinkled with mystery and magical realism. A century later, playwright Anthony Neilson has reconstructed this fascinating and fantastical historical event in a play that combines melodrama and extravagance with the aching loneliness that characterized that Victorian freak show. Beautifully designed by the director Dragoș Mușoiu to show the air of a theatre/circus, the performance is full of taste and characterized by sophistication, and the leading thread is that according to which sensibility mixes with jokes. This leads to Gant's dramatic conviction that "the truth of life is the most elusive of all facts."

A century later, the playwright Anthony Neilson has reconstructed this fascinating and fantastic event into a play that combines melodrama and extravagance with the painful loneliness, specific for Gant's strange Victorian show. Beautifully designed by director Dragoş Muşoiu, the performance reveals a credible circus and theater atmosphere, in which sensitivity and jokes are mixed. This leads to Gant's dramatic conviction that "From all deeds, the truth of life is the most difficult to distinguish".
