BÉRENGER – recital by Emil Boroghină after "Killer without Cimbria" by Eugène Ionesco
Eugen Ionescu believes that the world is him, and as such, if he knows himself, he will know the world. Disappointed and passionate, burlesque and pathetic, Eugen Ionescu is a lonely man. Mistrust, doubt, fear of others leads him to solitude. And yet there is in him a feeling of participation in the collective dramas of humanity, a feeling of suffering in front of its pains. He is not among those who drink without thirst the liquor of humanism. He is hungry and thirsty. Eugen Ionescu hopes in man's ability to be man... He exalts man in the face of what crushes him, in the face of what he considers to be the nonsense of his destiny, with a passion and a revolt that has , not once, trembling accents. EEugen Ionescu's swarms start life with an elan of unconsciousness, of joy, with crazy aspirations, with a passion that even death does not disarm. He brings to the tip of his pen a frenetic vibration and even if fatality floats in the air, the man preserves until the last moment the vestiges of a possible but missed greatness.
His theater is a refined mixture of light and shadow, made to reveal to us enigmas that can be solved with several keys. They are riddles as old as the world and which have received solutions as old as the world. In a certain sense, we are dealing with problems that have been solved, but which have survived...the solutions. This is why they are tragic.
